learning from legos

the thrill to youth-
seeing, hearing, each
for the first time.

there's a joy in newness,
personalization, definition-
we used to build worlds, then
tear them all down!

now, nearing gray,
we're too afraid
of what makes us who we are-
our mistakes, and imperfections.

Luck

To have ever seen you
     in the flesh,
To have ever felt
     your ocean breathe,
To have ever held you
     head to chest,
I would consider myself
     lucky.

Rituals in Mourning

Alone I wake,
Before light, horizon,
Shame, sin;

Alone I breathe-
Out, in,
Listening for a second
Heartbeat in the distance.

Alone,
I watch
Earth rotate
On it's axis-
Like you
Turning over
To greet me,

Turning over
To face morning,
Truth, together.
