Shelter

Wake up to the smell of ash,
Fall asleep to perfume and smoke.
Winter breathes, you moan and gasp-

Please keep me warm,
Please give me hope.

Dead Leaves

A whisper of your voice
And these dead leaves dance,
In the darkness and cold,
A whole life comes to chance.

Seek me not in the summer,
But in the last breath of fall,

Seek me soon, my dear lover,
Or let the wind
              take us all.

When You're Gone

When you're gone, I stare into the sun for hours, hoping I go blind enough to never have to watch you leave again.

When you're gone, I pace madly back and forth, deciding whether to succeed in spite of you, or for you.

When you're gone, I still feel this burning passion to run to you, pick you up, and kiss you into the next lifetime.

But sometimes, when you're gone, I feel like I am headed to the afterlife alone-

Naked, cold, and screaming out your name.

September

Am I
Supposed to be
Stronger than this?

Smoke replaced you
In my lungs,
Whiskey in my blood-
I hang my head
In failed attempts
To cry myself to death.

So please, don't
Look at me now
With a lover's gaze
As you know
You were more than
A kiss goodnight-

More than a summer
Solstice.

Tribute to Your Past

I want
To play
Old records
On your back-

I want
To hear
New Orleans jazz,
To see
New York City traffic,
To be
Everywhere
You've been,
Everywhere
You are.

Impending Fall

An exhale is all you need,
An inhale can be too much-

For I see the snow in the distance
And feel the needles among the brush.

You could lay with me,
Count the colors and the leaves;

Oh dear, come lay with me,
And exhale sweet as our branches touch.

Broken

A ray of light
Reaches out
From the darkness
You call your soul.

And I'll reach
Not for the light,
But for the shadows
From which it came-

For I will not let you
Let yourself go.
I will drag you out
Of this hell, feeling
Every flame you feel-

Seeing every moment
You let go.

Restless

If the power of will
Is so strong,
Won't you come?

Be fearless and swift,
Come kiss my lips...

Tell me I won't drown
Alone, in these sheets.

Muse

As you sleep,
My moonlit hands
Discover new galaxies
Along your ribcage.

Come,
Let yourself
Between the darkness
And the light, sharing
Your body and soul
In a collaboration
In love, for life.

Beginning With an End

In our last goodbye,
I wondered if
I do love you
Far too recklessly.

'A kiss at what cost,'
They speak not
From my own heart-

'How far would you go,'
They suggest places
I wouldn't venture?

My heartbeat will pound,
On until this world
Carries you back to
My wet seashore arms,
Like a wild flower
Floating river to meadow.

My Young Years are Yours

Why do we doubt the bed in which we lay? I will never leave these cherry blossom, white sheets-

Our heaven is more than I deserve.  And I would lay alone a thousand years to hold you like I did tonight.

Defining Moments

If we die
In the name of love
They can never
Call us cowards,

But if I die
In the name of drugs
They will never
Call this love.

It Begins Within-

I think we tend
to see ourselves
in one another,

But I don't know
Yet, if we love
Ourselves
Entirely.

Seattle

Wet, windy coastal air
Leaves me breathless-
Shaking at the fingertips
With a lustful longing
For love, and peace.

A feeling I will never shake,
But a feeling I know
You know all too well,
As our eyes gaze down
And our hands fall upon
Each other's summer skin.

Tequila

You weren't my first hello,
But I'd love you
To be my last goodbye-

As I take fate
Into my own hands
Holding your body dear,
Whispering sweet nothings
Until I'm all that you are,
And you are all
You ever wanted to be.
